I want to buy a PDA - don’t know which one yet, but I don’t want it to act as a phone as well. Could someone tell me what type of plan I would need so that I could connect to the internet? I will not be using my cell-phone to do this either.

There are three ways to access the internst with non-phone pdas. Wifi, bluetooth through a phone or connected PC , and a cable link to a cell phone or PC. There are also a few high end pda’s that are wide area capable.
for the basic wifi, you only need to find an open hotspot. You can search for these at Jwire and other sites. You can also check into Warchalking.
Some wifi connection require a subscription. Many of these are through cellphone comanies, with the hotspots at places like kinkos. Many hotels also offer wifi internet as an additional cost on the room charge.A few offer it for free. Palm pdas have an email client that can work with any pop3 or imap mail service. OF course, web-based mail will work with the browser.
