Your Questions

Assuming I am so rich and I want to buy a watch, what is your advice?

To spend RM15,000 on a designer watch ie Gucci/Cartier/Chanel or watches made from a watch maker company ie Tag/Ebel? AND WHY?
Thks for all the thoughtful answers. Now I understand why people would spend that much to buy a real good watch. (wow, now I need to strike lottery)

But why some of you jumped to the conclusion I am a pretend, gosh you guys really have open up a bit, IF I WANNA pretend why do I have to fix it at 15K only?

  2. I’m rich that’s why I don’t need a watch. I don’t have one.
You’re real question is that you “pretend” to be rich and want to look like one. :oD

  7. While many watchmakers make most of their profits from bread-and-butter product lines–which, at the higher-end levels, tend to retail in the $5,000 range–many of the top-end brands also offer watches that cost well into six figures. These include mechanical men’s watches laden with grande complications or ladies’ watches dripping with jewels from premier Swiss watchmakers such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Girard-Perregaux and the like. Oh, they’re going to cost you–$200,000 per easily, and much, much more if you really want to splurge. But it is as timeless, intricate and impressive as they come–even if it ends up under lock and key, as such timepieces tend to do.

If you really want a good watch, i wont suggest you choose one from the deisgner brand such as gucci, cd or chanel as they are more focus on their clothing line, bags and accessories. Watches are just another additional item to the line.

Choose one from a reputable name in watch making which have long history. Watches like Rolex and Tag are good investment. Especially limited edition watch some will even pay more price than the original to get it for their private collection.

  8. I would suggest Patek Philippe’s limited addition.

  9. Designer watches, to me, are useless besides the fact that people only buy it because it looks good. Choose this if you are looking for an accessories.

If I had the means to buy a decent watch, I would always go for quality watch makers like Rolex, Tag Heuer, Seiko and Citizen or Casio. They have more functions too besides aesthetic. I buy this type of watches for its functionality and practicality.

But since I don’t have the funds, I’m just stuck with my good ol’ reliable Swatch. :)

  11. Well, i didn’t wear watch, my hp’s clock is just enough for me. i’ll use that money on wireless pc gadget because you can do multi task on same item. watches is just a watch as i think.
Just beware when buying expensive watches, because you could wasting those RM15k just for a fake one. that is my advice

  14. mens like their watch just like women like their diamond.
watch is a luxury symbol to represent a modern man status or ego.

you dont want to walk around with grandpa clock tied behind your back do you?
than get yourself a watch and be a man.

  15. I had a Tag Heuer once - it was supposed to be up to 200 m water proof and supposed to last you a lifetime unfortunately 2 years down the road I saw lots of sand inside the watch face and it just stopped like that. When I brought it for repair, the guy said - oh, water has gone in and also some sand from the beach/sea you always go to. I never dive deeper than 100 m, so how could the watch be subject to extremely high pressures it couldn’t withstand?

Back in those days (10 years ago when I bought it), a ladies’ Tag cost me RM500, now it is at least RM1000. It was beyond repair 2 years later.

Then I bought a Seiko Kinetic - no batteries needed:), all you have to do to keep it functioning is, move like you do everyday with it on your wrist. It has lasted me 9 years til today, cost me RM850 back then. Once every 5 years you have to change the ball-bearing inside that generates the kinetic energy. I recommend Seiko - dad has another one requiring batteries, that watch is as old as myself (24 years old).

Designer watches are just for the brand and sometimes for style - what for? The brand is reproducible in Petaling Street.

  18. Forget designer watches. With 15k, go for Tag Heuer, Omega or a Breitling. All 3 makes excellent watches.
